The San Francisco Bay Area Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure is proud to announce the availability of grant funds for the 2009 – 2010 program year. Applications for breast cancer and breast health programs from federally tax exempt organizations in Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Sonoma and West Solano counties that provide services to underserved populations are eligible for funding.
The mission of the Susan G. Komen for the Cure is to save lives and end breast cancer forever by empowering people, ensuring quality care for all and energizing science to find the cures. The Komen SF Affiliate is proud to have invested over $10.0 million in local breast health and breast cancer awareness projects in the 9 Bay Area counties of Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Sonoma and West Solano since our inception in 1987 – 2007.
We accomplish this through the Race for the Cure®, donations from individuals, corporate contributions, benefits by community partners, and other fund-raising efforts. A minimum 25 percent of our income is directed to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Award and Research Grant Programs supporting research, awards and educational and scientific programs around the world. Up to 75 percent of remaining funds stay in the San Francisco Bay Area.
Since 2007, we have adopted a 2-stage process for the major grant application. The process begins with the completion of an Intent to Apply Application (ITAA). ITAAs must be submitted by Wednesday, October 1, 2008. If submitted by mail, ITAAs must be postmarked by September 30, 2008. All ITAAs submitted by the deadline will be reviewed by the Affiliate’s Grant Committee. Organizations that have submitted an ITAA will be notified by October 16, 2008 as to whether they will be invited to submit a grant application. Organizations invited to submit a grant application must do so by Monday, December 15, 2008. Please note that only organizations that have submitted an ITAA will be eligible to submit a major grant application. Please click here for an ITA application form with detailed instructions.
Please feel free to contact our Community Coordinator Siang Sin Goh, at grants@komensf.org if you have any questions. Quiet Period: a quiet period between September 8–22, 2008 will be in place. Please do not contact the affiliate office with questions about your application during this period.
